In a distressing incident from Odisha, eastern India, a man named Jitu Munda resorted to carrying his deceased sister’s skeletal remains to a bank to prove her death and access her savings. Jitu Munda, 52, from Keonjhar district, Odisha, faced repeated refusals when trying to withdraw the 19,300 rupees his late sister Kalara had saved. After multiple failed attempts to provide the bank with proof of her death, Munda, overwhelmed by frustration, exhumed her skeletal remains and brought them to the bank in a sack.

The shocking footage shows Munda placing the remains outside the bank entrance, a desperate plea to be heard. His sister, a daily wage laborer, had passed away earlier this year after returning to her maternal home following the deaths of her husband and son.

Bank’s Response and Conflicting Accounts

The Odisha Grameen Bank, operated by Indian Overseas Bank, denied requesting the physical presence of the deceased and stated that Munda was informed about the necessary legal procedures. The bank claimed Munda initially came in an inebriated state and became disruptive, later returning with the remains.

Branch manager Sushant Kumar Sethi disputed parts of Munda’s story, noting that other legal heirs had come forward and that Munda had not visited the branch recently. The bank emphasized that the money was released after proper documentation was submitted.
