Motorola’s latest Razr and Razr Plus flip phones have hit the market with a surprising twist: higher prices paired with minimal upgrades. The 2026 Razr Plus now costs $1,099, a $100 increase from last year, yet it retains the same two-year-old Snapdragon 8S Gen 3 chipset and only modest battery improvements.

This trend of shrinkflation—where consumers pay more for less—raises questions about value in the midtier and entry-level foldable phone segments. With reduced storage options and fewer color choices, Motorola’s new Razr lineup may struggle to excite buyers looking for meaningful innovation.

Price Increases Without Major Performance Gains

The 2026 Razr Plus is priced at $1,099, up from $999 last year, yet it continues to use the Snapdragon 8S Gen 3 chipset, which debuted two years ago. While it boasts 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, these specs are largely unchanged. The only notable hardware upgrade is a larger 4,500mAh silicon-carbon battery, a step up from the previous 4,000mAh capacity.

Camera and Design Tweaks: A Mixed Bag

Motorola replaced the Razr Plus’s 50-megapixel 2x telephoto lens with a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera, a move that some see as a smart trade-off since ultrawide lenses offer more versatility. However, the main camera hardware remains unchanged otherwise. The Razr Plus also comes in just one color option this year—Mountain View, a deep green with a woven texture—down from two colors previously.

Entry-Level Razr Sees Storage Cuts and Minor Chipset Upgrade

The entry-level 2026 Razr is priced at $799 but offers only 128GB of storage, halving last year’s 256GB. It does receive a slight processor bump to the Dimensity 7450X from the 7400X and upgrades its ultrawide camera from 13 megapixels to 50 megapixels. Despite these changes, the phone retains the same design with a prominent forehead and comes in a wider range of colors and finishes.

  • All Razr models are IP48-rated for water resistance but not dust protection.
  • The standard Razr meets MIL-STD 810H standards for durability against extreme conditions.
  • Battery capacity increases slightly across models, with the standard Razr now at 4,800mAh.

What This Means for Foldable Phone Buyers

Motorola’s 2026 Razr lineup highlights the challenges of balancing innovation with cost in the foldable phone market. While battery and camera tweaks offer some improvements, the price hikes and reduced storage or color options may leave consumers questioning the value proposition. As foldables continue to evolve, buyers will be watching closely for meaningful upgrades rather than incremental changes.
