The accident occurred near a station close to the Seine riverbank in Juvisy-sur-Orge, about 20 kilometers south of Paris. Eyewitnesses reported the bus missed a right turn, continued straight, and dragged a parked car into the river. The trainee driver was accompanied by a lead driver and two passengers at the time.
