Newly released images show Cole Tomas Allen, accused of opening fire at the White House Correspondents' dinner, posing with multiple weapons in his hotel room just hours before the attack. Prosecutors have submitted these photos along with fresh details about Allen’s movements leading up to the April 25 incident in Washington, D.C.

The 31-year-old suspect faces serious charges, including attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump. The evidence paints a picture of a premeditated and calculated assault, raising concerns about security and the potential threat posed by Allen.

Chilling Selfies Capture Armed Suspect Preparing for Attack

Prosecutors revealed photos showing Allen in his hotel room at around 8:03 p.m. EST, dressed formally but heavily armed. He is seen wearing a shoulder holster, carrying a sheathed knife, and surrounded by ammunition. Items like pliers and wire cutters, later recovered by authorities, were also visible.

These images were taken shortly before Allen allegedly checked live news coverage of the dinner and confirmed the president’s attendance, signaling a deliberate and planned assault.

The Attack: Weapons, Security Breach, and Immediate Aftermath

Allen reportedly carried a semi-automatic handgun, a pump-action shotgun, and three knives as he charged past a security checkpoint at the Washington Hilton hotel. He discarded a long black coat concealing the shotgun before rushing the screening area with the weapon raised.

Gunfire erupted inside the ballroom where President Trump, Vice President JD Vance, cabinet members, and other officials were attending. A Secret Service agent was wounded but survived without serious injury.

Suspect’s Journey and Disturbing Preparations

Allen traveled from his home in Torrance, California, on April 21, taking a train to Chicago before arriving in Washington. Prosecutors uncovered a note on his phone detailing observations from his cross-country trip, including a poetic description of the New Mexico desert.

An email sent to his family shortly before the attack revealed chilling intentions: “Administration officials... are targets, prioritized from highest-ranking to lowest,” Allen wrote. He added, “I would still go through most everyone here to get to the targets if it were absolutely necessary.”

Legal Proceedings and Future Implications

Allen has pleaded not guilty to multiple charges, including attempted assassination, transportation of a firearm to commit a felony, and discharging a firearm in a crime of violence. If convicted, he faces life imprisonment.

"There is no condition or combination of conditions that will reasonably assure the safety of other people or the community if the defendant were released from custody.",—Prosecutors

Authorities are seeking to keep Allen detained pending trial, emphasizing the premeditated and violent nature of his actions. The case continues to raise questions about security protocols at high-profile political events and the ongoing threats faced by public officials.
